The M1J34 Junction was temporarily closed yesterday morning near Meadowhall, while traffic officers removed two cows from the motorway.

The livestock caused disruption when they escaped their field and were pictured casually strolling across the M1.

CCTV Images of the cows were shared on Twitter.

One Rotherham resident jokingly responded:

The motorway has since been reopened after the animals were shot dead.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “As the bulls posed a danger to life and property, the decision sadly had to be taken to destroy them both.”
