The Mayor of Rotherham has officially launched the Rotherham Poppy Cascade today to mark remembrance day later this month.

The display at Centenary Market Hall is made of 20,000 poppies knitted by local volunteers.

A wall of fallen heroes also showed photographs and information about Rotherham residents who sadly lost their lives contributing to the war effort.

The Mayor, Councillor Jenny Andrews, was joined by Ron Moffett MBE, Chairman of the Rotherham Rawmarsh & Parkgate Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL), which celebrates its centenary this year.

The RBL are also involved in the Remembrance Sunday Parade which will take place in Clifton Park with Rotherham Military Community Veterans Centre, Parade Commander and Reverend of Rotherham Minster.

The parade will start at 10.35 on Sunday 14 November with veterans and organisations taking part.

A service will then take place with the national two-minute silence and wreath laying at the Cenotaph.
