An investigation has been launched after a pensioner died in a bungalow fire in Mexborough.
Firefighters from Rotherham, Dearne, and Edlington Fire Stations were called to the property on Flowitt Street at 6.30pm on Friday evening.
The crew quickly entered the property and found a man in his 80s in the living room but, despite their best efforts, they were unable to revive him.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire is currently unknown and an investigation is underway.
A spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s friends and family at this extremely sad time.”
